Meet the Executive Board

NATHALIE NIEVES – President

unnamed.jpg

Hola, todos! My name is Nathalie Nieves and I am an assignment editor with CBS National News based in Queens, NYC. My career trajectory includes a stint with Bridges World News and three years with the New York Times. I have been a member of NAHJ NYC for over five years and am committed to supporting current and incoming Latinx journalists.

As the secretary for NAHJ NYC this past year, I’ve seen firsthand how quickly we’ve all had to adjust to online networking, panels and events. During my time as secretary, I was able to bring informative Zoom panels to our members that included a partnership with NYABJ to discuss race relations, I moderated a six-month Retrospective on how COVID-19 has impacted NYC and helped launch the Martes de Miembros Initiative to highlight our current members.

I am so incredibly proud of what we accomplished this year- including awarding tickets to our members so they could attend the NAHJ convention, employment and professional development opportunities- and look forward to a new year of more panels, more opportunities to grow our membership and community and #MoreLatinosInNews.

Deyanira Martinez – VICE PRESIDENT

rsz_deyanahj.jpgDeyanira Martinez is a freelance bilingual journalist, author and entrepreneur. She is also the CEO and founder of DeyaMedia Corp, a content and media agency as well as a TV host. She is the author of the book: El Arte de Atreverse and co-author of Today’s inspired Latina. Deyanira works in advertising and is the Co-chair of the New York Times Latino ERG Group.

Deyanira Martinez holds a degree in journalism from the Universidad Central del Este and a degree in Business Administration from Queens College – The University of the City of New York.

BIANCA SILVA – Secretary

My name is Bianca Silva, and I’m a journalist living in New York City. I’m a born and bred New Yorker from Washington Heights. Coming from a family of Dominican immigrants who have worked tirelessly to achieve the American dream, I’ve learned the value of persistence and patience. I’m currently operating as a full-time freelance journalist and working as a part-time fact-checker for Schneps Media. I’ve previously worked as a Digital Producer at Bleacher Report and as a Freelance Broadcast Associate for the BBC, where I helped out on a documentary on the late Michael Jackson. My work has also been featured in HuffPost and The Haitian Times.

At the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, I served as the Secretary and eventually, Vice President of the NAHJ school chapter from 2014-2015. During my tenure, I played a role in increasing enrollment among students and holding panels featuring prominent Hispanic journalists on the work they’ve done. If elected for secretary, I’ll work hard to ensure that fellow Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx freelancers get the support and resources they need to succeed in journalism while advocating for more of our presence in the newsroom.
