The NAHJ New York City Chapter is proud to announce the winners of our 2020 NAHJ conference scholarship:

Congratulations to Gwen Aviles,  Dalia Saavedra and Lisa Salinas!

While Dalia and Lisa have chosen to defer their registration to next year’s conference, Gwen will be attending our virtual convention this year.

Gwen Aviles is a reporter at NBC News, with a focus on arts and culture, Latino, race and gender issues and education. She was previously a reporter for NBC News’ diversity verticals and has freelanced for a wide range of publications, including HuffPost, Forbes and Latino Rebels. Gwen is a graduate of Cornell University and Northwestern University.

Growing up Dalia Saavedra, a South Bronx resident and recent graduate of The City College of New York, witnessed the oppression faced by the Hispanic community. She decided to pursue a career in journalism to tell their stories and make their voices heard. She currently takes the challenges from her own life to assist Telemundo 47 Responde, the consumer department at the station.

Lisa Salinas is from Dallas, Texas. She’s currently working on her M.A. in Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. This summer she is back in her hometown interning at The Dallas Morning News on the Arts & Entertainment desk.
